Subject Files, 1966-1987.

Subject files (1966-1987) of the Division of Theological Studies contain correspondence, conference minutes and agenda, memoranda, reports, study and conference participant lists, paper and publication drafts, and final publications regarding Division administrative activities, studies and statements, consultative work for other Lutheran Council in the USA (LCUSA) divisions and offices, and theological education conferences for seminary students and faculty. Studies and conferences conducted by the Division for LCUSA participating church bodies pertain to the anniversaries of the Formula of Concord and the Augsburg Confession; sex, marriage, and the family; in-vitro fertilization; the born again movement; christology; the church and the ministry; the function of doctrine and theology in light of the unity of the church; God's presence and action today; hermeneutics; historical criticism; historic episcopate; the Holy Spirit; inter-faith worship; ordination of women; peace and war; and women and men in the mission of the church. Correspondents include LCUSA Division of Theological Studies Executive Secretaries Arnold E. Carlson, Fred W. Meuser, Paul D. Opsahl, and Joseph A. Burgess; LCUSA General Secretaries C. Thomas Spitz, George F. Harkins, and John R. Houck; LCUSA participating church body presidents, officials, and study and conference participants; LCUSA division, department, and office staff; Lutheran and non-Lutheran seminary presidents, faculty and students; Aid Association for Lutherans staff; Lutheran World Federation, U.S.A. The collection is arranged alphabetically in six general subject areas: Administration, Conferences/Consultations, Publications, Studies, Support Services in Theological Education, and Bound Volumes.
